Let's say we have 6 and 9. We have to find its GCF See the diagram |dw:1330717064091:dw| Divide 9 by 6, we get remainder 3. Now divide 6 by 3. The remainder is 0 . SO the highest common factor is 3

Here we have 12 and 36 divide 36 by 12 , we get remainder 0 , so 12 itself is the GCF
