For a project, i have to pick 5 songs for 5 scenes on Romeo and Juliet. i have... 1) I'm Glad You Came, The Wanted, for the Party scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ggzxInyzVE&ob=av2e 2) Enchanted, Owl City for the Balcony Scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpRRO-1UycQ&feature=player_embedded 3) Marry You, Bruno Mars, for the Marriage(derp) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lqF_huno40 4) What I've Done, Linkin Park, for Mercutio's Death http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sgycukafqQ 5) Sold My soul, The Used, For the Tomb/Burial Scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmawlrFhVtE

Do you guys Think this is appropriate songs for the scenes? i was thinking about 'You had a bad day" for the Tomb scene, i thought it would be too painfully Litote-y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ps, i really don't know if this counts as "writing, but it's for romeo and juliet so...yes??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Glad you came is not really appropriate for this film (play) at all. Do not use it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm, i don't know what to use for a party song....and i don't want to use something Cliched like Party Rock Anthem, LMFAO

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the party, it should be something epic, and emotional ,as to symbolize the endind og old, and the beginning of a new relationship. Its not just a party

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But why is Glad You came not appropriate? oops, i forgot to mention, this Romeo And Juliet is kind of different. What we're supposed to do is pick an Era, Who the "capulets" and "Montagues" are; where they are and why. an example... Takes place in WWII Era, A Nazi and a Jew fall in love etc. just Romeo and Juliet-ize the entire thing. see what im getting at?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What song is "epic and emotional?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean the music is epic, but the lyrics would be emotional.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i don't know T-T how about.....nope...i don't know... i chose "im glad you came" simply because, it was sort of a party song, and i thought modern Juliet would be like this. glad.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hold on, let me find a song for you.. you can see fi you like it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just for the record, if i don't like it, don't be offended please...i'm quite narrow minded when it comes to music...but i'll be as open-minded as possible for this *puts on determined face*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cinema bizarre- forever or never

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cinema bizarre-get off is good too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope -_- sorry....it just won't work.....thanx for trying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome

@arnoldYu, what an interesting assignment! The time shift, the songs. Looks like you've put a lot of thought into it, and I think "I'm Glad You Came" is perfect, in terms of theme and energy. This is EXACTLY how Romeo would be feeling about Juliet! Only a feeling this overwhelming could have set in motion all that happens subsequently. This music, and the other songs too I assume, is completely out of time -- it's our time, not WWII era music -- but that can also be an artistic choice deliberately made. It would be some production. Too bad we can't all go see it. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH, the WWII era thing was just an example, not my actual choice! but thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OIC, I had it all wrong! lol . . . but I think you have made creative and entirely appropriate choices for those songs. (Well, maybe the song for the tomb scene is a little off? Or I'm just not getting your interpretation of Romeo's feelings at that point.) But I love what you've done with the others. So perfect! You have breathed new life into what some students might have trouble experiencing through the language alone -- at first anyway.
