How many chromosomes in a haploid cell?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haploid cells carry half of the chromosomic load of a cell, in the case of humans it is 23, which in turn refer to the gametes or sex cells. but it depends of the species in question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The absolute number depends on the parent organism, but there are half the number of chromosomes present in a haploid cell as compared to the parental diploid cell. In humans diploid cells have 46 chromosomes, and haploid cells have 23. A diploid chromosome Set is a Paired Set; the haploid chromosome Set is a complete set of the Organism's chromosomes - UNPAIRED, as in Unique.
