the motion of a wheel of a car moving on a straight road is A.Transitional and oscillatory B.Rotational and oscillatory C.Transitional and rotational D.Rotational and random I think it's C... what's the right answer?
Yes.
A friend of mine said it was B so I was wondering... Thanks for clearing it up :) I'll be asking a couple more multiple choice questions when I come across the one's I'm having trouble with :) thanks again
If it were oscillatory, it would be moving backwards and forwards, but let's assume the driver isn't going Drive-Reverse-Drive-Reverse-Drive-Reverse ...
I think you also mean "Translational" not "Transitional"
well the options given says "transitional"
that really doesn't make sense then. Translational motion however does make sense.
I have no idea about what transitional (or translational) motion is but i knew it wasn't random or oscillatory cos oscillatory would be some weird movement for a car... I opted for C but I'm still not clear about what translational motion is.
translation is the acting of moving from one place to another. So it what a normal person thinks of when you say something is moving.
Hence translational motion is moving in a given direction, which is what a wheel on a car does, unless it is just spinning in mud/snow/whatever.
ok that makes sense :) thanks
