Which of the following correctly compares the changes that take place in an ecosystem during primary succession and secondary succession?

OpenStudy (carniel):

Are there answer chooses??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sdfg Primary succession takes place over a long period of time in an area that has been disrupted by a natural disaster, while secondary succession occurs quickly on newly formed land. OpenStudy (carniel):

Its the last one :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol no its not

OpenStudy (carniel):

Primary succession begins in areas where no soil is present. Secondary succession occurs in areas where there is soil already present.

OpenStudy (carniel):

So why isn't it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

promary osnt disrupted its a new form of land and it doesnt happens quickly it takes millions or years

OpenStudy (carniel):

Are you referring to Biology or Ecology....

OpenStudy (carniel):

What you just said is definition in Ecology

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk wtf ur talking bout but u dont know pellet

OpenStudy (carniel):

Ecological succession refers to orderly changes in an ecological community. These changes may happen because of the start of a new empty habitat (after a landslide, glacier, nuclear explosion, lava flow or even concreting), where all traces of previous biological material, even soil have been wiped out (Primary), or by some sort of disturbance (like bush fires, harvesting or logging) of an already existing habitat, which is not severe enough to kill everything. So plants can regrow and seeds spring up again (Secondary).

OpenStudy (carniel):

Lol if I didn't be answering you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its: Primary succession takes place over a long period of time on newly formed land, while secondary succession occurs quickly in areas that have disrupted by a natural disaster. "In other words, it is the gradual growth of an ecosystem over a longer period." "in contrast, secondary succession occurs on substrate that previously supported vegetation before an ecological disturbance such as forest fire, tsunami, flood, destroyed the plant life" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_succession

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Carniel, you are wrong. The answer you suggested is saying that secondary succession takes a long time, when it actually goes quickly. The answer is B. I took this test anyways so I know.
