What's the formula for work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Work = force x distance = the change in kinetic energy

thank you!(:

Welcome!

One little but important nuance. W = Fd, yes, but only that component of force that is in the direction of d. For example, if I carry a 10 kg weight around all day long 1 m off the ground, in physics terms I do no work, because the gravitational force is vertical and the direction in which it moves is horizontal.
