OpenStudy (gsx):

If you "cut" any ellipsoid, would the cut always be an ellips? If so, can you give me the proof or tell me where i can find it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe and ellipsoid is basically a sphere with an ellipse as an equator. You could cut it facing a "corner" of the ellipse and still get a circle.

OpenStudy (gsx):

What you are talking about is a spheroid. With a spheroid 2 of the 3 axis are equal, which makes a circle. But ellipsoids have 3 different axis so you would never get a circle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Eh, I'm not good at geometry, but it looks like you have your answer. Otherwise I'd use wikipedia.

OpenStudy (gsx):

Well the fact that you never get a circle doesn't mean that is you get an ellips. But thanks for helping :P
