whats the difference between fahrenheit and celsius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both Celsius and Fahrenheit are used to measure temperature, but they are different scales. The two scales use different temperature readings (different numerical values) for their reference points, which are the same reference points - the freezing point and boiling point of water. Water freezes at 0° C but freezes at 32° F. Water boils at 100° C but boils at 212° F. With this understanding, it remains only to figure out how to convert from one scale to the other. A link can be found below to the related question of conversion of one scale to the other. Celsius is the metric scale used world wide, Fahrenheit is the U.S. scale.
