Fundamental method, KVL equations are derived by traversing a loop in a clockwise manner, starting at the node. Is it an acceptable practice to traverse the same loop in a counter-clock manner with respect and sensitivity to polarities?

yes you can take counter clockwise direction when you are choosing the loop. But you take direction of every loop same because it will create a problem for solver when he take different direction for loops. Sign convention is also upto you. if you moving from +tive to -tive take positive voltage and take negative voltage when you are moving from -tive to positive.
