Can someone simplify this and also tell me how they did it? (6x^2 - 5) - (3x^2 + x + 7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does - (3x^2 + x + 7)= - 3x^2 - x - 7 you saw how i distributed the negative sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(6x^2 - 5) - (3x^2 + x + 7)= (6x^2 - 5) - 3x^2 - x - 7 : i just replaced it back 6x^2 - 5 - 3x^2 - x - 7 : I took down the first parentheses because I'm not multiplying anything out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add subtract to simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so wahst the final product?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6x^2 - 3x^2 - 5 - 7 - x add/subtract like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(6x^2 - 5) (-3x^2 - x - 7) i got it to that but what do i do with the x that has no exponent when i combine like terms since it has none?

OpenStudy (precal):

last step is \[3x^2-x-12\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you leave it out because it donesn't have a like term.
