When writing a book, do you think you should use slang? Normally I would say 'Heck no!' but it's a book aimed at teens so I want it to sound like a teen would speak. Any ideas?
You should always speak in a way that will engage your audience. If you speak the language *of* your audience, that's a sure way to engage them. I'm not saying that teens should read exclusively only those books that speak to them as they speak, but if it suits the subject matter (a novel told from the point of view of a teen, for example) you shouldn't let any considerations of what's proper or not in "standard" English hold you back. Mark Twain wrote in the vernacular, don't forget, and he wrote great literature.
Ok. The main character is a teen so thats what I was aiming for. Thanks :)
'Chure . . . :)
