what is graphene...? which is the strongest material...graphite or graphene...?
grephene is two dimensional material.... layers of graphene (nanometer thick) made graphite. actually you can say that graphene is building block of graphite plus many other carbon forms.... if you talk about strength then grephene is made of sp2 bonds, very strong bonds or strongest bonds....... so it has high strength..... since graphite is actually layers of graphene so it ll also hase good strength but layers can slip on each other due to weak wander wall forces.....
I was wondering why graphene is called the strongest..Graphite is nothing but a collection (bundle) of graphene...So Graphite is supposed to call as the strongest material...I do understand the fact that graphene has more conductivity than graphite due to the reason you have mentioned...but what about strength...?
graphene has only sp2 bonds but graphite has sp2 bonds and wander wall forces between graphene sheets... so when you do any test to measure strength then it act b/w the sheets and material deform hence low strength
graphene is having honeycomb structure, which is unique for its strength
@Jayasree .... do you know about any good book related to reaction kinetics?
