When Benjamin Button says in a weak voice, “Nice way to welcome a newborn child,” he is using oxymoron. sarcasm. situational irony. verbal irony.
That's curious. I just responded to this question a few minutes ago, to get the discussion going, but you seem to have deleted that thread and begun a new one.
So, to repeat . . . what is the context, what is the actual tone of voice he uses, what was the effect on you when you heard it? If you can express it, then it's just a matter of understanding what each of these terms means, and you can match the term to the situation. It would be a good idea to review the meaning of irony, since it comes into play in two of these labels: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/irony Alternatively, you could look up the meaning of each one of these labels and then decide which one fit the situation best.
Probably situational irony since he wasn't born as a child but as an old man. Just guessing.
it's kind of weird that I answered this and chatted with rebecca1223 yesterday in a different thread that is no longer here... rebecca, why are you asking the same question over and over?
This has been an ongoing problem since at least yesterday afternoon: questions asked and then, once responded to, deleted. If the actual answer was supplied in that response, the question tends not to appear again. If the response given did not include the actual answer, but rather encouraged discussion and thought, that question, once deleted, appears again fresh.
To be fair, though, rebecca1223 is new here and may not have known any better. I don't think this serial deletion is continuing now.
thanks RG, no worries... back to the books!
