Can someone please explain the Chain Rule to me Barney style? idk why its totally kicking my butt right now :( Thank you! <3

hero (hero):

What is Barney style Chain Rule? I'm curious to know how that works myself.

hero (hero):

In my opinion, I think the best option you have is to simply post the problem you're having trouble with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m(x)=√(x+1/x) [(sin3x)+5x]^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to find the derivative using the chain rule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like you'll have to use the product rule too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rewrite the square root function as the function raised to the ^(1/2) power

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when I use the chain rule, while writing it I say to myself "the derivative of the outside function while keeping the original inside, then mult by the derivative of the inside.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, let's say I have a function (2x^2+5x)^(1/2) . Using the chain rule, the derivative would be: derivative of outside while keeping the inside the same: ((1/2)(2x^2 + 5x)^(-1/2) mult by the derivative of the inside: 4x + 5. Therefore, the derivative of this function is (1/2)(2x^2 +5x)^(-1/2)* (4x + 5). Then just simplify it
