OpenStudy (mathmagician):

There are 14, 539 competitors taking part in a single-elimination chess tournament. How many games need to be played to find the winner? (In the case of a stalemate or a draw, the winner is decided by the toss of a coin.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Depends on what u understand of being a player. Some everytime smoler part of a human body or human body with some more of other person. If it is the first one, then its infinite, if the second then \[\max (n) | 14,539/2^{n} >1\] which would be 4

OpenStudy (mathmagician):

wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that comma for decimal part or for 1000?

OpenStudy (mathmagician):

for thousands of course

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then 1 player resigns, and the tournament can start

OpenStudy (mathmagician):

ok, if so, then how many games does it take to find the winner? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok... prime factors of your nummber are 14539 = 7 x 31 x 67. So dificult to make turnament of 1 vs1 , buit could make 7 vs 7 team games.

OpenStudy (mathmagician):

wrong, it is possible to make a tournament 1 vs 1 and it is NOT hard :)
