Graph equation x+y=5 Do you graph all points that make the equation true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. all you need are two points to draw a line so just find two (x, y) pairs and draw a line through those two points. For your equation, x + y = 5, if x = 0, then y = 5. So (0, 5) is a point on the line. also, if y = 0, then x = 5 so (5, 0) is also a point on the line. Now graph these two points and draw a line through them. that will give you the graph of the equation. Notice I choose "easy" points. You should do that in all your equations when you can.

technically speaking, drawing the line IS drawing all points that make the equation true.

So start with the easy points ok . now some of my problems have been making me enter 4 or 5 points in that case how do i know which ones to use

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i choose the (0, 5) and (5, 0) because if you look at your equation, 0 is the easiest to calculate the other variable. First I let x=0 to find y for the first point and for the second I let y=0 to find x for the other point. Make it easy on yourself. The other points are just to verify that your doing your calculations correctly, maybe.

ok thanks so much
