How do you write an essay/or 4 essays with a time limit of 25 minutes to two hours?
If you were given an article, essay, story, poem, etc., to read and write an essay about how do you come up with the: 1) thesis 2) main points 3) intro 4) conclusion What do you do to come up with the things? What questions do you ask yourself to accomplish your goals? o.o Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question!
Thesis is just an intro to what youre going to talk about. Figure your main points first then do a basic list of them in your thesis, list them but in little detail. you will explain more in the body of your essay. The main points are simply the most important, things you personally got out of whatever you read. The conclusion is an even shorter recap of everything you just explained in your essay. Very short and to the point, you restate you points but not in much detail (after all you just spent a whole essay explaining them :) Hope this helps a bit :)
What type of essay is it, do you know? Just what you got out of the writing?
Well for the next three units I believe I have to do an argumentative essay? I have to write about Hamlet's famous soliloquy, and other acts from the book. However, for the exam I have to write 4 essays + reading questions + definitions in two hours and it is going to be a mixed of argumentative, persuasive, of novels, Hamlet and perhaps even an article the teachers are going to give the class on the day of the exam.
Thank you btw!
No prob! Good luck :)
Must be a pain in the neck to write that much. D: Two hours... not ample time at all! Usually, during essay-writing tests, I prepare "writing prompts" beforehand. This includes introduction prompts that are so vague, any topic could be plugged in it. In all honesty, this is an amateur technique; henceforth, use it with caution. Your essays might look the same. :P Anyhow, reading ahead is one more thing, but that's the obvious part. When I prepare, I usually use a scrap paper and write out an outline. For example, if I'm writing an essay on the title "The Internet is a Bane", I would outline like this: I. Intro: What is the Internet? (Introduce the main topic.) a. What's its primary use? b. Who uses it? c. How do you use it personally? II. Body I: Addiction to the Net a. Distractions b. . . . III. Body II: <another bane> IV. Body III: HOWEVER, the INTERNET is also a boon... And so forth. When writing the conclusion using this technique, I only take the headings and make sentences about it. Make sure you limit yourself to having 6-7 points only. REMEMBER for argumentative essays, one cannot argue... - if the argument is a question - if the argument is a fact - if what you want to support is unclear Present both the good and bad things WITH FACTS. (I'm starting to state the obvious... :P) Lastly, practice! I like looking at model essays beforehand. ~ Hope this helps somehow. :D
wow, thank you!
