A dilation has the center (0,0). Find the image of the point (3,11), given a scale factor of 3.
(3*3, 3*11) id assume
since the dilation is determined from the center, then everything is 3 times as far away from the center as it was
so it would be (3,3) 3,11)?
... no
your notation doesnt even make sense ...
scale the given points components by a factor of 3
i dont get it
i have to assume that if you ask this level of a math question, that you must of had some prior experience to fall back on. The "IT" that you dont get could be anything at this point. Can you be more specific as to what you dont get?
lol im not good at math
i dont get how to get theanswer
http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=dilation&a=*C.dilation-_*MathWorld- this shows a picture of a triangle being dilated
you are told in the question that you have a point at (3,11) and that it is dilated to a different point by a factor of 3
if something is 3 times as far away; then that means all of its linear parts are 3 times as far away as well
so the answer would be to multiply this point by 3 in order to get the NEW coordinate under the dilation
so it woulkd be(9,33) ?
yes :)
oh ok i get it now, thanks foryour help (:
