yes, in the story, the main character has this wife and they are deeply in love but one day he returns with news saying that he is the father of someone else's child. Then brings home the baby to his wife after the woman died giving birth. well that's the gist of it ahaha

This might take a little time. I'm going to have to think about it and comb through some of my lit books to find a suitable work. I would also like to get @Redwood Girl involved on this. I'm going to be up for a bit more tonight and will look through some things. There are a couple of works that I already have in mind, but want to check them first. I should at least have some suggestions within the next hour or so, but to answer your original question (which I don't think I have to, I think you understand the requirements of the assignment now), what the assignment appears to be asking is for a comparison of two different works with similar family conflict and how the authors played out that conflict. Specifically what did the authors do that was similar and what did they do that was different. It seems to be left open a bit which is good, meaning that only one work is required while the other can be what ever you want. It is also left open as to what you can compare and contrast, in other words, you can look at mechanics and technique as well as literary devices and overall storyline.

What level writing is this HS or college?

Okay. I have one that popped into my mind right away. It's called Bed Among the Lentils by Alan Bennett. The common conflict would be infidelity in this case. Also might read Powder by Tobias Wolff. Common conflict in this one would be the father son relationship. Both are very short reads, which is beneficial with your timeline. Glad I could help.
