can you re-word this? i can't quite understand what it means :/ Write a short paper (2-3 pages should be enough) comparing and contrasting how a single type of family conflict operates within two different story worlds.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

This is a hard question. I'm not sure I understand it either. What class is this for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's for my intro to lit class. this is my final paper description :/

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

It sounds like creative writing perhaps?

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Ah okay. Just wanted to be sure that we were dealing with fiction writing. Are there specific stories that you have been assigned to analyze?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"August Wilson's drama, Fences, must be one of your sources" it says which is a play/script that i read yesterday.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Does the work envolve a family conflict? If so, what is that conflict? Maybe I can refer you to a second source with similar conflict that you can compare and contrast.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Looking at spark notes now since I haven't read this play. Give me a few minutes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, in the story, the main character has this wife and they are deeply in love but one day he returns with news saying that he is the father of someone else's child. Then brings home the baby to his wife after the woman died giving birth. well that's the gist of it ahaha

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

After reading spark notes it looks like there are several conflicts going on in this play. That is good because it shouldn't be too hard to find another work with at least one of them that you can compare it to. When is this due?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tomorrow by midnight.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Ouch.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eh my teacher is a pretty easy grader :) it's not as bad as my past procrastinations xD

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

This might take a little time. I'm going to have to think about it and comb through some of my lit books to find a suitable work. I would also like to get @Redwood Girl involved on this. I'm going to be up for a bit more tonight and will look through some things. There are a couple of works that I already have in mind, but want to check them first. I should at least have some suggestions within the next hour or so, but to answer your original question (which I don't think I have to, I think you understand the requirements of the assignment now), what the assignment appears to be asking is for a comparison of two different works with similar family conflict and how the authors played out that conflict. Specifically what did the authors do that was similar and what did they do that was different. It seems to be left open a bit which is good, meaning that only one work is required while the other can be what ever you want. It is also left open as to what you can compare and contrast, in other words, you can look at mechanics and technique as well as literary devices and overall storyline. What level writing is this HS or college?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's college writing. Thanks for all your dedication on this :) since I have a lot of stories in my course book, I'm sure I can find a story to compare FENCES to. Thank you so much though!

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Okay. I have one that popped into my mind right away. It's called Bed Among the Lentils by Alan Bennett. The common conflict would be infidelity in this case. Also might read Powder by Tobias Wolff. Common conflict in this one would be the father son relationship. Both are very short reads, which is beneficial with your timeline. Glad I could help. Don't hesitate to ask if you need more input or help.
