Graph each inequality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y \le7 \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any help i would appreciate it

OpenStudy (mysesshou):

probably this: because it is less than or equal to, then the circle is filled in. put a circle at the 7, draw to the left to show the values of y that are less than 7. is this what you've been learning? |dw:1332452709618:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but i dont understand this topic at all

OpenStudy (mysesshou):

ok, which part of my typed response was confusing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why it is filled in can the circle be not filled in

OpenStudy (mysesshou):

Ok: for the symbols \[\le \] and \[\ge\], the circle is filled in, because the value of y is less than or equal to 7. this means it could be equal to 7. then these symbols are used, the circle is filled in. for < or > the circle is an open circle. for example, x < 3 means that x is less than 3 but not including 3. everything smaller than 3 but not including it. ok so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so far

OpenStudy (mysesshou):

That's about it for the circles, they are either filled in or not. For example, if you had \[4 \le x < 8\] you would get this: |dw:1332453211206:dw|
