M is the midpoint of the line joining P and Q. R lies on PQ produced, such that PR = 3PQ . Find PM : PR .
write PR=3PQ as ratio i.e. PR:PQ=3:1 got it?
The answer is 1:6
I need an explanation on how to solve it...
have you drawn the pic?
Okay no. Sorry, I'm new here. I've been trying to do it mentally. I saw this question here and there was also an answer, but I don't understand the solution. Should I post the solution given previously?
I hit 'ask for an explanation'
yes. give the link.
Ok stand by
Not sure if abandoned...
Ah. there you are.
Okay then. So what does "R lies on PQ produced" imply?
look you need to find the solution of this question.? right.?
More like...I need to know how to form a solution.
Because the solution is this: let PM=a, then MQ=a.Let QR=b then PR=2a+b, 3Q=6a, so b=4a. Now PM:PR=a:2a+b=a:6a=1:6
I just can't quite grasp how to come to that conclusion. Am I being stupid?
Whoops, never mind. I got it. Thanks for trying to help.
are you sure?
