Using complete sentences, explain how to graph x + 3y = 9 using the x- and y-intercepts method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve the equation for x = 0 and y= 0, this gives you two points, one on each axis. where x=0 is the x intercept and where y=0 is the y intercept. Too simple?

X interecept: 9,0 y intercept: 0,3

can you explain a little more ? go through every step? thanks

First of all I would put it in the form: \[y=mx+b\] Where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept. \[y=-x/3+3\] So you know that b is the y-intercept, so you can plot 0,3. Next you want the x intercept, so solve for x: \[x=-3y+9\] now you can see that the x intercept is 9, so you can plot 9,0. Now that you have two points plotted, connect them with a line...
