If you are traveling 25 m/s in a car on a rainy day and the coefficient of static friction between the tires and the road is 0.20, what is the minimum stopping distance of the car?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

As the coefficient of static friction is always greater than or equal to the coefficient of kinetic friction, you know now the maximum frictional force that can be applied to the car (i.e., the maximum breaking without the tires skidding). In other words, you know the maximum deceleration of the car. From that you can find the minimum stopping distance.
