Certain corals have been found in extremely deep water. These coral lack the zooxanthellae that are found in tropical coral reefs because zooxanthellae require sunlight to go through photosynthesis and there is no sunlight available at these depths. These deepwater coral often are built upwards instead of across the bottom. Why do the polyps build the coral this way? a.)The pressure of the deep water is too great to build outwards. b.)They grow to avoid predators. c.)They are filter feeders. d.)The temperature of the water keeps them from building outwards.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which one do you think is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think ether a or d, but I'm not to sure I can't seem to find itin my lesson.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which one is better a or d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I know deep down in the sea there is so much pressure so that makes sense but I know they need high temperature.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you don't know which one then guess a or d than i will tell u correct answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm thinking more towards d because I know they need warmer temperature to grow and deep down the water is cold.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct! nice job :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :) did you take marine science?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):
