OpenStudy (chrisplusian):

can someone explain to me how the area of a triangle is (r^2 sin(theta))/2?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

what is r and what is theta??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think he means like on the unit circle r the radius. that is just the area formula I believe listed in the back of most trig books

OpenStudy (chrisplusian):

yes that is correct but I can't find it in the back of my trig book. I always thought of the area of a triangle as half times base times hieghth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is but this is another way!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they usually won't list the h pretty ever in trig.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pretty much ever*

OpenStudy (chrisplusian):

can you explain to me how radius squared times sin theta divided by two equals the area of a triangle?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

|dw:1333635534242:dw| Do you mean this triangle??

OpenStudy (chrisplusian):

no I can t figure out how to attach a pdf from another open study question to here because I recently bought an apple and dont know how

OpenStudy (chrisplusian):

Here is the file and if you look at the area of a triangle formula give tnat is what I was talking about

OpenStudy (experimentx):

thats same as i posted the picture above.
