find the real values of x that the expression cannot take. log 4 (2x+1)=y

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You cannot take the log of a negative number. So 2x+1 cannot be negative. If it were, then 2x+1 < 0 2x < -1 x < -1/2 So x cannot be values that are less than -1/2

Directrix (directrix):

2x +1 < 0 2x < -1 x < -1/2 cannot be values of x because they produce 0 or negative numbers.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh you can't take the log of zero either. So it's really x <= -1/2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So this means that x = -1/2 also isn't allowed.
