What is the vertex of the graph of y = –4(x + 2)2 + 5? Can someone show me how to solve this using steps.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

the last two is square ... i guess.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh nvm you mean -4(x+2)^(2) + 5

OpenStudy (experimentx):

else there wouldn't be a vertex.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it's squared, my bad.

OpenStudy (experimentx):

y = 5 x = -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you show me how you solved it?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

4(x + 2)^2 = 0 for x since this will be zero, the remaining will be 5 easy trick try for this one y = 5(x-3)^2-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How come you took off the negative for the 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand :/
