what does the negative electronic energy for hydrogen atom mean???????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

electronic energy? what is that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey god ....heena page no.44 ncert class 11

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

the electron's total mechanical energy is negative- this must be what you mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry for calling u dat its only words ok actaully ncert mis dat word it mean electric potential evergy ok

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Its in class 12 NCERt Physics. Modern Physics too. beautiful explanation check that out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now negative sign iss there only to show direction ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@apoorvk in which page?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol its chemistry topic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but thi equation is used in physsc as well :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

energy in that case u ca say they are trying to determine exo or endo by showing sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey god ..........kya bol rhi ho yr sb glt hai.... there no concept of exo ar endo okk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

listen just giving advice if they say abu energy and show sign den they are rying to determine exo or endo reation ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*trying=rying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and nw coming to ur qn i m not sure but i ll like to give my opinion as here u are aying -ve enrgy oh H atom mean when u seprate H molecules it will show exothermic reaction.. and amount of energy released is wwritten in for of negative to sshow exothermic reaction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat u say @zbay ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rit arvi reply fast :P

OpenStudy (aravindg):

u see we assume potential energy=0 at infinity distance from nucleus , so as we approach the nucleus the energy becomes negative.as a general case total energy of any bounded system is -ve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow aarvind ya u totally right ...ya got....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ye and u can get a proof by bornhaber cycle that if u see total energy it will be laways negative becoz all endo in last turns in exo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arvi where r u from??????

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

which page? contents diary hoon kya main? khoj lo chup chaap. its somewhere in the first chapter of modern physics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha :P m to test kr ri ti mere bhai :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look if u guys say abu bio ncert i read thoroughly but physc and chem ncert nah nvr dat much :P

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Chem NCERT ghont lena. Koi hi central exam keliye very important. And, anyways NCERT is the BEST books for explaining concepts in a lucid manner, atleast for the basics/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yar mera bsaic clear h u knw dat or ncert m mene har page ni parha as mene sirf inpt thing hi parhi h or y sb qn k reason m us concepts de kti hu anywayss at the time of my xam paka dalugi aplogo ko pakka h :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the energy of the electron in a hydrogen atom has a negative sign for all possible orbits. .this negative sigh means that the energy of the electtron in the atom is lower than the energy of a free is the at rest.a free electron at rest is an electron that is infintely at rest ias an relectron that is infnitely far away from the nucleus and is assigned the energy value =0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got so many reason thnx neha :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hhehehee bhai sch me ab jakr me smji...........the most negative value is given by N=1 which coressponds to the most stable orbit .we call this grouund state....is i m rit
