what is the leading coefficent in y=x+11x^2

Directrix (directrix):

11 It is the coefficent of the highest degreed power of x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried and it was the wrong answer

Directrix (directrix):

Leading Coefficient The coefficient of a polynomial's leading term. For example, 5 is the leading coefficient of 5x4 – 6x3 + 4x – 12. http://www.mathwords.com/l/leading_coefficient.htm I don't see how that could be wrong. Were you supposed to include its variable?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it just says this Identify the leading coefficient for stan- dard form.

Directrix (directrix):

I saw the post you made earlier with 17 or 19 as the lead coefficent and it was wrong, you posted. But, I agreed with the person who helped you. Standard form is with the descending powers of the variable. How does your text define "leading coefficient?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know what you mean.

Directrix (directrix):

Read here about standard form: http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/mth251/cq/FieldGuide/polynomial/lesson.html

Directrix (directrix):

If you have a free chance at the answer coming, stick "1" in there and see what happens. Somebody could have programmed the answer wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah probably

Directrix (directrix):

I suggest that you appeal the ruling of wrong answer on this and that other problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok i'll just ask my teacher, but thank you.

Directrix (directrix):

Post back here and let us know what "they" say is the correct answer.
