Hello everyone! So I'm writing a YA novel and since most of you are teens, I thought I would ask, What do yo look for in a book? What makes you qualify it as good? Any advise is welcome

I look for a real page turner. I guess you could say suspense in a way! For example the way Janet Evanovich writes she always leaves you wanting more. You wnat to turn the next page to find out what happens! So action, or horror or comedy are real page turners!

I totally agree with Tash! I would want a page turner and suspense! I also like different point of views but not too much. I mostly like it in one person's view. I like books that describe everything and are creative. Like books/authors that make up their own name for different places, and different names for characters that aren't usually heard of! Sorta like Clive Barker's Abarat Series

Hm, thanks you both :) I'll have to keep all that in mind :)

imagination...and i mean the big imagination things...something people never saw before..kinda like Harry Potter...school for wizards..epic...and also if the serious stuffs...drama is nice...kinda like how Nicholas Sparks ALWAYS adds an unpassable obstacle for the lovers but they stay with each other anyway

Thanks owly :) It is set in a fantasy world, a war between werewolves and dragons. I've always loved Harry but I try to stay away from wizards for the whole idea thief thing.

Looks like you have all the advice you need but i'll put my 2 cents in anyways :P When I read something, I need to be able to identify with the characters in some way, the plot in some way, the psychological detail in some way, etc. The thing that makes a story interesting is when the reader becomes immersed, engrossed, and eventually pulled INTO the story. If you can tell it with such suspense, description and emotion that the reader's heart pumps faster in chase scenes, you're doing your job :). Make sure to help give the reader a proper understanding of the background of each character (while leaving the mystical ones ... well, mystical) but not so much that your story doesn't get off the ground fast enough. Some people like a good "black-and-white" story of good versus evil. But in the real world, that's not how it works. But some betrayal, greed, vice, all the things that make the story THAT much more entertaining and realistic. Suspense is awesome. Always have suspense, whether it is what animal is going to show up or if an entire army is about to hear out of the black horizon!! :D I love writing so if you would like some collaboration, just shoot me a message with the plot area / characters you want and I'll give it a shot!
