√3/2-1/2???

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

that's (sqrt 3/2) - (1/2) right? notice how you have the same denominators...now..in fractions..what happens when you subtract terms with common denominators?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But its a surd

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

it makes no difference..it's still a fraction...so do you get it now? it just depends if you have to simplify it further by getting rid of the squareroot and combine it with -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is 1??

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

no no it's ([sqrt 3) - 1]/2

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

combine the numerators copy the common denominator..remember?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, only just started to work with surds.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

but it's the law of fraction i said...when adding/subtracting fractions with common denominators, add/subtract the numerators; copy the common denominator
