Don't see how any weighted average of 67 (Teamwork), 83 (Problem Solving), 62 (Engagement) leads to a total "SmartScore" of 90.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

The overall SmartScore is not a weighted average of the sub-components.

Thanks for the link. The minute you need to write multiple long essays about it, I think you lost people. I suggest you make it obvious (from information presented on the profile page).

OpenStudy (carniel):

@GT I strongly dissagree. There have been more people joining the site lately

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

I'm not really sure what you're looking for. All the factors that are presented on the profile page are factored into the SmartScore. The three categories and the main SmartScore are measured on their own independent scales, that is all. The algorithm will naturally be complex, as the thing we are trying to measure is complex.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

To wit, while the per-category scores don't factor directly into the overall SmartScore, the raw score in each one, which is not displayed, is what results in the overall SmartScore.

The only question that came to my mind was the following: If SmartScore is a percentile measure, how did 67, 83 and 62 percentiles add up to 90 percentile? I am simply suggesting you consider an easy, obvious and visual answer. I am not complaining about it or seeking deeper clarification.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@carniel That is awesome. My choice of word "lost" was certainly not meant to convey losing people from the site. I meant "lost" in comprehending the score. Sorry for the confusiong.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Fair enough. We'll see if there's a way to make it clear these are on separate though related scales.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Initially I had a score of 88. Now I've been demoted to 54 :-(. It doesn't really bother me. I'm not here for the score unless the numbers translate into ice cream :-).

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Hopefully it'll translate to more than ice cream for students and younger job-seekers :)
