How do prions move?
Prions move by circulating in the bloodstream; transfusions of blood can also act as carriers of the particles. Prion diseases are believed to be originally caused by genetically altered proteins fed to sheep. Tunnelling nanotubes are important for the intercellular transfer of prions
Prions are not really organisms. They are infectious proteins that replicate by causing normal proteins to become shaped like the prion itself. They have no locomotion apparatus(i.e cilia , flagella)
like a dandelion in the wind
prions is the most virulence and resistance to any disinfectant.
nur_shafini is correct. Prions cannot be denatured by standard sterilization or disinfection techniques. Medical facilities don't test for the presence of prions, so some people are being exposed to prions without knowing.
yes he is right
Rick already posted a great answer but in case you were wondering about transmittal its thought that in animals they are mainly transmitted by ingestion of another infected animal. Prions can also remain in soil or manure and are known to be transmissible through infected manure. The thing that scares me about prions is that the incubation period is that they have a very long incubation period before symptoms develop so a prion disease could potentially become quite widespread before being identified and the diseases at this point are all fatal.
