Can someone help me with forming a thesis about the effects of the cold war on a third world country
That depends on what you want to write about more specifically. The thesis is sorta a summary of your paper. It's the statement upon which the rest of your paper expands, adds to, or explains. So think about what you are going to write, and form a sentence that encompasses all of your main points are. You can start with something simple like "The effects of the the cold war on third world countries are [list 3 things]" and then expand on those three things. Or you can even make something more broad like "The effects of the cold war on third world countries has global impact". There are a million different theses that could be created based on the info you gave.
It's not unlike the effect on children of divorcing parents: everybody was forced to choose sides, more or less. With that model in mind, you can probably think of some interesting questions to ask. I would wonder, myself, why you are starting with a thesis. Shouldn't you be starting with some questions, and then go off and do research and find the answers to them? How can you form a thesis before you do your research? That's like deciding who you want to take to the dance before you get to know any of your classmates!
idk Carl, if some of the classmates are hot why get to know them first? But yea, best way to form the thesis would be to decide what what was going on, and what you want to mention and then write the thesis. Personally I write my intro paragraph and thesis last when I'm writing. Because then I can see what I've written and can make a statement that encompasses all of that for sure rather than having to conform my other paragraphs to the thesis. It's much easier to change a one sentence thesis than it is to change a whole paragraph (or more) if they don't go together.
