Can someone walk me through how to solve this please Show all work. ind the difference: (6x2 + 8x + 1) – (-5x2 + x + 8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perform the operations on like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you have two terms with x2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r u there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be 1x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would do that for them all then after that how would I solve it. Sorry I'm just so confused with this all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. 6x2-(-5x2)=6x2 +5x2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem --I will help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I keep forgetting that part. 11x2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All that the question is asking is to subtract like terms. there is no solution beyond that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok, I understand now. Thanks so much :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is 11x62 + 7x + (-7) correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(6x2 + 8x + 1) – (-5x2 + x + 8) 6x^2+8x+1+5x^2-x-8 11x^2+7x-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be minus 7 and not plus negative 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So here's a stupid question. Why would I drop the plus on the last part?
