Isn't this a differential equation? y'(t)=cy(t)+f(t) Haven't done these in some time, but this should be solvable.

It's an equation from thermo for rate of reaction but since I am confused on the math I thought it was appropriate for this group. It is a differential, yes.

Have you taken a differential equations class? I think you need to use integrating factors like explained here: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/DE/Linear.aspx It seems to be a lot of work and I'm messing up my integrals, so don't think I can help with the calculation itself.

Next semester I will be taking a differential class. The integration step doesn't need to be known for this class but I was curious. Thanks for your help though!

I think it is amazing that undergrad chem majors aren't required to take a differe. class when it is necessary to understand the math.

Lack of time, maybe? Don't you people spend 40 hours a week in the lab or writing lab reports?
