someone please explain to me how he got that anwser?

Group the terms that can be divided by 5, and the group that can be divided by 12 48x^2y + 12xy+20xz+5z now look at the first two term and remove what is common to both terms: 12xy(4x+1) do the same to the last two 5z(4x+1) We now have 12xy(4x+1) + 5z(4x+1) Now what do we have in common with these, as you may have guessed it is (4x+1) It is contained in both of them, remove it (4x+1)(12xy+5z). With lots of practice, you will soon develop a knack for it.
