Heat + NH4Cl(s) NH4(aq) + Cl(aq) The reaction above is classified as endothermic because

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm assuming the arrow is between the NH4CL, But the reason this would be endothermic is because after you have put in the activation energy the reaction is going to give off more heat than it will absorb.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because heat is absorbed by the reactants. An exothermic reaction will produce heat; that means the surroundings will increase in temperature so heat is LOST by the reactants. In an endothermic reaction heat is being GAINED or absorbed by the reactants and the surroundings will decrease in temperature.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are adding heat to the reactant which means it is absorbing heat, therefore this reaction is endothermic.

OpenStudy (jfraser):

@Ollie58 is correct. Since heat is being added as a reactant, teh reaction is endothermic
