How do you use functions of pronumerals? like f(x), etc.

OpenStudy (chaise):

f(x) basicly implies "The functions value with respect to x" or the "The function evaluated at the value of x" if f(x)=4x^2+2x then f(4) = 4*4^2+2*4 It doesn't get much harder than that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if you have something like f(x) 4x+2=7x+6?

OpenStudy (chaise):

To my best knowledge you are normally never given this type of notation. This notation is often used to determine the derivative of a function by definition.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, damn. That means I need to learn MORE stuff for the olympiad. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = f(x).....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let f be a function defined for all real numbers and having non-zero real numbers for it's values, such that f(x+2)=f(x-1)*f(x+5) for all real x Show that f is a periodic function; show that there is a number P>0 such that f(x+p)=f(x) for all real numbers x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yuk..function analysis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to know how to do this.... Mostly because I have to.
