A superlight is flying northwest at 75 mph. The wind is from the south at 40 mph. Find the bearing for the course and the ground speed of the superlight.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think this is a physics question pertaining to vectors. Tip = Use vectorial addition to add velocities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

trigonometry actually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1335437914376:dw| v_w = velocity of wind v_b=velocity of bird. Resolve v_w along x and y axis and then try to add the velocities

hero (hero):

This question is cake compared to the other questions you've posted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant Resolve v_b along x and y axis and then try to add the velocities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It should give you the velocity w.r.t the ground. And the velocity w.r.t ground will give you an indication of the course of the bird from the ground

OpenStudy (istim):

Or use the component method.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I said the same thing @IsTim

OpenStudy (istim):

No, Vector Addition is a bit different than Component Method...

OpenStudy (istim):

Same diagrams yes, but component method uses charts to organize the data a bit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. :D

OpenStudy (istim):

|dw:1335449653398:dw| That's kind of how it looks like.
