the sun orbits of the Milky Way Galaxy at about 220 km/sec at a distance from the center of about 2.6*10^20m. What is the mass of the Milky Way inside the sun's orbit? (Note: In this problem, we assume that the galaxy can be treated as a sphere of matter.)

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

not sure how to compute mass given speed and distance...but in center of milky way is a black hole with infinite density...so good luck measuring that mass :)

lol^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not in our galaxy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...yet

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

oh oops, well a tiny black hole then...something with a lot of gravity is holding the stars together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's not a blackhole yet...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i thought the center was billions of giant stars @dumbcow
