Find the area of the shaded region for the following figure.
I solved it to be 116.3ft, but i'm unsure. I drew a triangle at the bottom and divided the parts into 4. I used the Pythagorean theorem to find the height, which was 4 root 3. the area of the triangle is 16 root 3. I subtracted that from the area of the rectangle, which is 144 and got 116.3
Draw a line connecting the points at the bottom of the figure. That will give you a rectangle with a triangle inside. The area of the shaded area is the area of the rectangle less the area of the triangle.
I meant that I drew an altitude, and seperated the parts into 4.
find the area of the triangle you need pythagoras to find the height of the triangle |dw:1335561181310:dw| Shaded Area = Area of Rectangle - Area of triangle \[A = 18 \times8 - \frac{1}{2} \times 8 \times4\sqrt{3}\]
