Sharon earns $25 per item she sells plus a base salary of $100 per week. Write and solve an inequality to find how many items she must sell to earn at least $700 per week. Okay now I need to show my work on this one as well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Define some variables. Write an expression for how much she makes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll get you started. n = number of items she sells How much does she make in a single week if she sells n items?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know I did that and my teacher said it was not detail enough. I'm sooo freaking frustrated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What expression did you come up with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$25 price of items x 28 items need to be sold=$700.00 Sharon would need to sell 28 items at $25 dollars to make a profit of $700 dollars.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Than I wrote $25x=>$700-$100=>$600.00 x=$600/$25=>24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you are correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They're looking for an inequality, to make at least $700. So you're actually looking for \[x\ge 24\] Other than that though, looks right to me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it, I don't know what more she is asking for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm not quite. She doesn't have to sell enough to make 700 purely on items because she starts by making 100. I'd take things a little bit more step by step. First, try to write an expression for how much she makes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K, Thanks for helping me guys it really does mean alot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The expression! What is it!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about it. She makes at least 100 dollars, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

She wrote it has x>=24 She took the 100 dollars into account already as well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I told you that she sold 5 units, how would you calculute the amount she made that week?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K guys gotta get back to school work I trust my gut (and yours) lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, well. I suppose she ends up at the right answer. It's just sort of a confused process, which is what the teacher is probably complaining about. The expression for how much she makes is: 100 + 25x The inequality is 100 + 25x > 700 And then the last step would be to solve it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I understand what you mean, she should omit the 1st part about selling 28 items to makr $700.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. Definitely.
