Anyone know how to solve the boundary value problem du/dx = 4*(du/dy), where u is a function of x and y and the initial condition is u(0,y) = 8e^-3y + 4e^-5y?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

does it help that you can arrange it as \[\frac{dy}{dx} = 4\] \[\rightarrow y = 4x +C\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am supposed to solve for U(x,y). So that doesn't really help. Good idea though.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yeah didn't think so here is a reference for boundary value problems...i'm not an expert at these http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/DE/PDESummary.aspx

CoC guys we cant give answers!! you are violating the rule @dumbcow

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

?? i didn't give any solutions...i didn't really help at all :|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I don't know what he is talking about. Thanks for at least giving it a shot though. I've been looking around the paul's notes site. no luck so far...

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yeah i just realized that pauls notes doesn't really go into boundary problems for multi-variable functions
