Hexagon A is a regular hexagon. The total length of all the sides of the hexagon is 36 inches. Hexagon A is dilated about its center to create Hexagon B. The length of each side of Hexagon B is 1 and 1 over 2 inches. By what factor was Hexagon A dilated to create Hexagon B? answers: 1/8, 1/4, 4, or 4 and 1/2

@experimentX can you help me please?

@radar can you help me please? someone

OpenStudy (experimentx):

the original length of one side of hexagon is 36/6 = 6 inches ... and what is the length of side of hexagon B??? i don't understand ??

OpenStudy (radar):

As experimentX has explained the original side was 6 inches, the new configuration has sides that are now 1 1/2 inches or 1.5 in.

OpenStudy (radar):

For some unknown reason they have used the term "dilated" to create a SMALLER hexagon when in fact the term "dilated" should of created a LARGER hexagon, so the question has introduced some confusion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats why i need help lol

OpenStudy (experimentx):

divide the original length by the new length ... you will have answer.

OpenStudy (radar):

but I guess one should stick with the measurements provided and if 6 becomes 1.5 it is 1/4 th of the original size.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well thanks for trying :/

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

by 4 time because 4 *1,5 =6 ok ?

OpenStudy (radar):

It is 1/4th or 4 depending on the askers definition of "dilate" I would go with the 1/4th but I have been wrong a few times in my life. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol well ill have my teacher explain it to me later lol

OpenStudy (radar):

@jhonyy9, the hexagon A when from 6 in sides to become hexagon B with 1.5 inch side and it asks what factor A was dilated to become B what factor does 6 become 1.5 inch. I can see that Hexagon A was 4 times Hexagon B, but is that the question? Other words Hexagon B was dilated by a factor 4 to become A, but that is the direction of events????

OpenStudy (radar):

* is not

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes is sure that A not was dilated the A was reduced
