If you draw a line, and a point that's not on the line, you'll find that the shortest distance from that point to the line is basically the length of a segment that's perpendicular to the line and that goes through the point. This length is equal to the distance from the point to the line So to sum up or simplify things, the distance from a point to a line is the length of the ___perpendicular___ segment from the point to the line
