OpenStudy (anonymous):

where was the photon before the excited atom emmit it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

photon is a quantum of light energy which gets absorbed by electron of an atom which jumps to a higher energy state(excited state) and the excited atom on de-excitation(de-excites to attain stability-less energy, more stable) releases that energy in the form of a photon.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is correct, but t where does the excited atom store this quantum before the emmision?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the energy is used by the electron which jumps to a higher energy state

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

Photon is nothing else than energy... The electron falls down to lower energy level decreasing its energy and emitting photon with magnitude equal to decreased energy.. So, photon is stored in form of energy of electron before it is released..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1336129557910:dw| When the electron from the higher energy state jumps to any of the holes in the lower energy states then the energy is released in the form of quanta called photons whose energy is exactly equal to the energy difference of the electron in the two energy states \[DeltaE=h \upsilon\]
