If you are on a field trip to the ocean and you recovered 750 grams of ocean salts from a sample of ocean water, based on known percentages of dissolved solids in ocean water, what would be the mass of sodium in the sample? A. 24.51 g B. 0.041 g C. 229.5 g D. 750 g

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We are missing information here, more specifically, we need to know the percentages of dissolved salt in water.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the percentage of dessolved salt in water is 3.5 %

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then it should work like this. You have 750 grams of seawater. 3.5% of it is salt. We would just multiply the two together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i dont get any of the answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, let me take a look.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What numbers did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 26.25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Same. Were you given any other numbers/information in the question that you left out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i did not. this is all that the question gave..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe @inkyvoyd can help :D

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Nope. I'm not a marine biologist xD

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

We need the number that Argonx mentioned

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Concentration of salt in seawater. Either we're interpreting the question wrong, or the question is written wrong. I think you should either leave it blank or pick like A or whatever is closest to the answer we got, and then ask your teacher.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i figured out that there is 30.6 % of sodium in the water, so i multiplied 750 and 30.6% together to get 229.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. That seems about right. Good job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Yes, if statistics agree that it is 30.6%, you should be correct.
