Is cytokinesis a part of mitosis ? all the time in school i had read that mitosis had two steps 1.karyokinesis 2. cytokinesis but now i was just reading biology by Miller&Harley according to which mitosis is only nuclear division not including cytokinesis confused :(
what is cytokinses?
cytokinesis is the division of cytopalsm it occurs after karyokinesis which is the division of nucleus so two daughter cells are formed
so it is mitosis division, coz two daughter cells are produced
but according to miller harley mitosis is only nuclear division :( this making my head spin
mitosis and meiosis are the two methods of cell division . Cytokinesis is a part of cell division too .. so mitosis and meiosis both must include cytokinesis.. but their processes of nuclear division are separate..
so rahul cytokinesis is a part of mitosis right ? not a separate thing
yes . cytokinesis is a part of mitosis.
thnks :D
nice question @warz
Sorry to add to the confusion, @warz, but I've always learned that mitosis referred strictly to the division of the nucleus. Cytokinesis is a different, though /very/ related process. I think we may associate mitosis with cytokinesis because the two almost always go together. But you can have the nucleus divide in a cell without the cell dividing itself - giving you one cell with two nuclei. Mitosis has indeed occurred to completion; cytokinesis simply did not follow it.
i agree wid @kma as i m also confused and i ll first confirm from my teachers den i ll cmnt (:
thnkx heena and kma i will also work on it but for now i guess will do according to my book
