Nancy drew parallelogram ABCD as shown. On the same grid she will draw parallelogram PQRS similar to parallelogram ABCD with the ratio of corresponding side lengths PQ and AB equal to 4 : 1. If the coordinates of vertex P are (-3, 2), what could be the coordinates of vertex Q? A.) (-12, 2) B.) (-3, 3) C.) (1, 3) D.) (5, 2)

@amistre64 can you help me out with this problem??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

names are set up to be similar as well; so P to Q is the same in ratio as A to B

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the ratio tells us that PQ is 4 times as long as AB

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it looks like AB is 2 units long; so PQ needs to be 2(4) units long; or 8 units

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since P is at (-3,2) ; and we keep the y and add 8 to the x (to match the direction of AB); what will that give us for Q?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 so will it be (5,2) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wich is D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i agree

Thank you for your help :)
